Player Collection Catch Up - Reggie Jackson

One of my goals in 2015 was to place a little more focus and pick up some cards to grow my player collections.  I have made varying degrees of progress but decided it was time to post updates for some of the players to gauge my progress.  In this post I will share some of my more recent Reggie Jackson pickups. 

I have quite a few Reggie cards to share, I had neglected my collection of his cards for a few years and would love to do some more damage to my want list soon.

This is a pretty nice looking group of cards.  The card in the upper left is the Topps Chrome version of an insert set that was also in the flagship release and I have to say it looks really good in Chrome. I am a big fan of the 2015 Donruss All-Time Diamond Kings and have decided to pursue the set.  I really like the photo in the A's card and even the non-licensed Classics card looks pretty good.  The Ballpark Classics design in okay but I would prefer a bigger picture of Reggie and the final card in this scan is a great Kellogg's card - who doesn't love Kellogg's 3-D Super Stars cards?

This group includes 3 shiny Reggie parallels and a black border Ginter mini.  I really like that Donruss brought back the Season and Career stat line cards but it bothers me that they capped the serial numbering at 400.  If Reggie hit 563 HRs, print 563 cards!

This is an eclectic group of cards with a Cereal issue, a couple shiny cards and a couple of cards featuring Reggie in designs prior to his playing career.  I really like the Fan Favorites card and how they matched a card from Reggie's early days in the 1968 design.  I think I am probably in the minority but I like the 1968 design and that will probably be the next Heritage set I collect.

These are 3 base cards from fairly recent Topps higher end sets.  I think the design of all 3 cards are pretty solid.  I have been tempted to try and put together a Tribute or Triple Threads base set in the past but have never pulled the trigger.  I think a binder containing an entire set would be an amazing addition to my collection but I haven't been able to justify allocating my limited card collecting budget towards this type of base set.  Maybe one day....

This dual relic features Reggie with fan favorite Bernie Williams.  Williams is not a HOF caliber player in my opinion and I am surprised the Yankees plan on retiring his number.  With the pace at which the Yankees retire numbers they are going to need to move to Roman Numerals, Chinese Symbols or 3-Digit Numbers in the not too distant future.

As I tend to do, I saved my favorite card for last.  I am not sure exactly what it is with this Fan Favorite relic design, but I love it.  Every time I see this card I am excited it is part of my collection.  I recall the earlier days of relic cards where the bat cards seemed to greatly outnumber the jersey cards.  For some reason with sluggers like Reggie, I much prefer a slice of his bat.
