McCovey Monday #17

My favorite player of all time is Hall of Famer Willie McCovey.  I have amassed a collection of over 1100 different  McCovey cards since I started collecting him in the late 1980s.  I will show off one of my favorite cards every Monday.  Stretch was one of the most feared hitters of all time and I am excited to show off my collection.

Quick post today showing off another recent pick up for the McCovey collection.

This is a "Unity" relic from last year's Triple Threads. Kind of a lame concept in my opinion.  You have 3 different versions of some players and when put together you had an entire stadium view.  At least they used different photos in each.  Wouldn't have been that bad of an idea if they didn't have several color variation parallels with different serial numbering.

I do now have 2 of the 3 Emerald variations of McCovey /18 and I have the other one out of /36.  Maybe I will get them all out one of these days and see what the entire stadium looks like with 3 McCoveys.

While I don't like the concept, I do like this particular card.  First off, with a birthday on St. Patrick's Day, green is always a great color.  I like the McCovey photo, the uniform is one a remember.  The design of him hitting lefty with the field in front of him works.  Any I am a fan of the bat piece in the card, much better than the typical white swatch.

Another card off the McCovey want list.  Moving forward I am going to try and mix in some vintage favorites as well.

  1. I'm always amazed to hear how many cards player collectors have. 1100. That's amazing. Your 60's want list looks a lot like what's missing from my Ron Santo collection - test issues , Venezuelans, etc.
