Top 20 Recent Vintage Purchases - #12 1966 Topps Eddie Mathews

Earlier in the countdown, I mentioned that I thought Harmon Killebrew was underrated and I would put Eddie Mathews into that category as well.  He is a 500+ HR hitter but wasn't enshrined into Cooperstown until his 5th year of eligibility.  Can you believe a member of the 500 HR club got less than a third of the votes in his first year?  Maybe this past year's voting wasn't as crazy as I thought.

I have been able to pick up a couple of Mathews cards from Sportlots auctions on the cheap latey including this beauty from 1966.  I find it funny that Topps airbrushed out the hat logo since the Braves were in the process of moving from Milwaukee to Atlanta.  I have always enjoyed the fact that Eddie's Brave career spanned from Boston, through Milwaukee and into Atlanta.

  2. Love Mathews cards. I have a 1967 from his Astros days and love it.
